Impressions

Some pictures taken while travelling in the context of my research. I also do other things in my life, such as powerlifting or long-distance hiking, and I might occasionally smuggle in some of these pictures here.

Nov 2022: Talking about the development of geodetic models of the earth and their importance for modelling other planets in the solar system. All while suffering in the aftermath of a questionable haircut. At Harvard's Earth and Planetary Science Department, photo taken by Junjie Dong.

Oct 2022: Chinatown (Chicago), after recording an Elucidations episode on the philosophy of measurement with Matt Teichman and Joseph Diller.

Sep 2022: Trying hard to understand operationalism with my niece Anna.

Sep 2022: John Herschel's chart of corrected 18th-century surface gravity measurements, discovered in the archive of the Royal Society. (courtesy of the Royal Society).

Jul 2022: Good times with Claudia Cristalli and Gauthier Fontaine after the Measurement at the Crossroads Conference in Milan. Photo credits Mahmoud Jalloh.

Jul 2022: Entry guide to the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. Milano. As apparent from the high artistic quality, the picture is not mine but Mahmoud Jalloh's.

April 2022:  Price lecture at the Du Châtelet workshop at Duke University. Photo by Alisa Bokulich.

Aug 2021: Newton's Principia as street art in Barbastro, Huesca.

Johann Benedict Listing's New Geometrical and Dynamical Constants of the Earth's Figure (Göttingen 1878). A forgotten but important contribution to physical geodesy, which I rediscovered in the archives of the University of Göttingen.

May 2022: View on Stockholm's city library from the astronomical observatory hill. Taken after a guest lecture for the Department of Engineering at KTH Stockholm.

Feb 2020: Dramatically gesturing while talking about scientific pluralism at the Oxford Philosophy of Physics Graduate Conference. Photo by Caspar Jacobs.

Sep 2021: Dresden's historical center during a workshop on the history of precision measurement at the Mathematisch-Physikalischer Salon of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen
